One is a 3d RPG , the other is a TBS. How exactly is this going to work from a play style view ?
As we all know the might and magic series is based on a party of 5 characters - which allows great replayability as the pool of characters is quite large.
The heroes of might and magic series is based of the idea of singular heroes ( exception is hmm4 where you can have as many heroes as you want in your party and the hero actually fights in the battles). Apart from hmm4 all hmm games are based on the idea of a singular hero with an army of up to 7 different creatures.
So let's say you start the game, you are the hero and you raise an army to do your bidding. When you venture into the world and start seeing enemies how exactly will the fights go ? let's say I am out there ... and I want to do the Avlee area, I see monsters and I engage combat.
1) who is fighting ? me and my troops or just me or just my troops ?
2) if only my troops fight then how does my class matter ?
3) what is a mob in this version of a game ? just a mob or a stack of mobs like in the hmm series
4) is the combat Might and magic series style and if yes then how do I control my troops ?
5) is the combat hom style in which case how does a real time fight happen ? and what happens when other mobs join a fight which is totally possible in a 3d environment.
There are many questions to ask here. Do you guys have a starting document based on which you will develop the game (hey, I'd love to be part of the team btw :) ) ?
unreal 3 engine sounds very cool but :
1) do you have the source ? does your work only work in an already built game ? can you actually use the engine in your own application and if yes does the license allow you to use it ? I had a look at their site, but it only says something about the editor coming with a game you buy, but it doesn't actually say anything about how to use it. If an editor comes with a game then it's safe to assume then the product of the editor will work in that game but not in custom built ones.
2) The might and magic series never had an amazing engine, nor did it depend on one. The game itself was what kept many of us, old school players, play it. We played it for the feeling it gave us , not for the effects in it. Btw the Might and Magic engine has never been released. Might be worth asking Ubisoft if they are prepared to release it as it happened with quake 1 and 2 source code for example or wolfenstein 3d.
I have more questions, but I'll stop here for now hehe :).

am sure the rest of the team will allso have a say on this
matter so keep posted.
